About the Greenland Essential: East Coasts itinerary

Greenland's east coast is home to some of the world's largest fjord systems, like Scoresby Sund. Expeditions often include sailing among towering icebergs, visiting remote Inuit communities, and spotting wildlife such as musk oxen, Arctic hares, and whales. Itineraries may start or end in Iceland, with some including flights to reach more remote areas. Northern Lights are often visible in late summer and early autumn, adding a magical touch. Expect a mix of Zodiac cruises, landings, and cultural encounters in one of Earth’s most untouched regions.

Embark in Reykjavík and begin your journey across the Denmark Strait. Enjoy introductory lectures and wildlife watching opportunities at sea.

Cross the Denmark Strait, watching for seabirds and whales from deck. Attend expert talks about Greenlandic history, wildlife, and the Inuit culture.

Reach the icy, majestic coast of East Greenland. Explore dramatic fjords like Scoresby Sund, towering icebergs, and colorful Inuit settlements like Ittoqqortoormiit. Activities include Zodiac cruising, tundra hikes, glacier visits, and optional kayaking. Wildlife sightings may include musk oxen, Arctic hares, and seals.

Sail back to Iceland and disembark in Reykjavík. End your Arctic adventure or continue exploring Iceland.

Welcome aboard the Expedition

The newly refurbished Expedition is a classic polar vessel built for comfort, safety, and immersive exploration. With space for just 128 guests, this small ship allows for a more personal, community-focused experience and ensures everyone can participate in twice-daily landings (weather permitting).

Onboard, travelers will enjoy updated cabins with private bathrooms, cozy social areas, two jacuzzis, a gym, and a 24/7 beverage station. The ship’s high Ice Class 1A rating and upgraded stabilizers make for smooth sailing through icy waters, while its efficient, quieter engines help reduce environmental impact — so you can enjoy the sounds of nature while leaving a smaller footprint.

Perfectly sized for getting up close with the polar environment, the Expedition is your comfortable, adventure-ready for unforgettable journeys to the ends of the Earth.

The 132-passenger Ocean Adventurer is one of the very few vessels in the world purpose-built for expedition voyages to remote polar regions like Antarctica. Formerly known as the Sea Adventurer, she underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment in 2017. The Adventurer has an ice-strengthened hull that allows the ship to navigate safely through icy waters that are not accessible to conventional cruise vessels.
